Education is Undoubtedly the Pillar for a Person to Thrive and Achieve Success

Even with the knowledge of the power of education, the entire world suffers from an educational gap. Although, there are currently various government programs, organizations, and movements dedicated to transforming education and building channels to make it accessible to all, there is still a long way to go.

Today, 303 million children and young people between the ages of 5 and 17 are out of school worldwide. A number that is undoubtedly worrying and that instead of decreasing is increasing year by year.

How is it possible that so many children and teenagers do not have access to education, which is a universal right? It’s true that it affects less developed countries more, whether for economic, political, or social reasons. However, the United States is not exempt to this problem. Although we have a strong education system with better funding, there are critical gaps that cause education to be unequal in different communities.

What are the issues affecting education in the country? In most cases, the education of children and youth is truncated by economic issues and social problems, such as, racism, discrimination, among others. However, it is worrying that one of the main factors affecting education is family environment, as many children live in homes where violence is constant and affects them emotionally, and as a result causes lack of motivation and aspirations.

Another problem that could be affecting education in the United States is that the educational system of each school is weak and not updated, or that the school itself does not have the means to hire teachers with the necessary preparation to create worthy programs that prepare students to face middle school, high school, and college.

In addition to problems that affect education, students, whether children or youth, must face the world around them, which is increasingly full of challenges that require them to have certain knowledge, skills, and competencies to be able to face and successfully overcome them. However, in most cases, they are not taught at school or at home and are necessary to be able to thrive in life.

Mentor Rocket arises from the need to give students from vulnerable communities the opportunity to acquire the necessary life skills to face the world around them and be able to thrive in their personal and professional lives.

These skills are known as Power Skills, for example, critical thinking, resilience, negotiation, creativity, communication, leadership, teamwork, collaboration, assertiveness, and many more. With these learnings, students can make their biggest dreams come true.

Would you like to change the lives of students in your community? If so, we invite you to sign up to be a Mentor Rocket Volunteer.
